Spaghetti squash
There are such valuable learning experiences to be found in the kitchen. I involved Sebastian in our food preparation process from a young age. He loved to smell everything in the spice cabinet, stir the bowl, and sample everything.
Today he can do nearly everything that I do, though he spends considerably fewer hours with me in the kitchen. There are far more exciting things to occupy his time, and it's a rare and sweet treasure when he asks (or agrees) to assist with cooking.
I dream about him rekindling his love for cooking in the future, and one day being some girl's dream guy with his exemplary culinary skills. (Which, for the record will not come from me. I will go on the record saying that I'm a mediocre cook, but his experiences with me will be so inspiring that he will explore and learn far beyond what he learned from me.)
The other evening we made spaghetti squash with tomatoes, olives, feta, basil, garlic, and onion. I love spaghetti squash and I'm sure my family is quickly tiring of it. This recipe is one of my favorites and can be found here.
Sebastian's early days in the kitchen.

i love this! totally an inspiration to me - and i have been doing simular things with Elizabeth! how did you handle the stove?
ReplyDeleteIt's so fun to see their discoveries in the kitchen! I love the photos of Elizabeth on her little stool and the new things that she can get into (or stick to her face).
DeleteI've seen some pretty serious burns on little ones - so needless to say the stove freaks me out. I usually give him other tasks to occupy him while I'm using the stovetop or opening the oven. Now that he's a little older I have him close enough that he can see what takes place but far enough that he can't touch.
