Hawkeye is Sebastian's favorite Avenger. I'm fairly certain that the marksman's bow and arrow is the sole reason for this. In early September he set his sights on being Hawkeye. It seems like an easy costume to find, since The Avengers is so big this year. Immediately into my search, I found that this costume did not exist in small sizes. For a month I searched unsuccessfully, attempting to find something, anything his size that resembled Hawkeye's sleek, dark attire.
Walking through the Halloween aisles at Target one day, we were looking at toddler costumes. Everything seemed too juvenile for my super-hero-obsessed boy. At the far end of the aisle, he spotted something wonderful. It was the costume that he had been dreaming of. Never mind that it was three sizes too big. It was Hawkeye's vest, and it included his beloved bow and arrow!
It was torture waiting until Halloween. That costume hung in his closet, beckoning him night and day.
Friday night I pulled the hanger out of the closet, and the kid was ecstatic. I bundled him up, helped him velcro up his vest, hung the bow on his shoulder, and my little boy was transformed into a mighty hero.
If he hadn't been so stinking excited for the Halloween party at school I never would have left the house. Howling wind and torrential downpour begged me to stay in my warm, cozy house wearing soft sweats and drinking hot tea.
Seeing friends and teachers, winning two cake walks, pumpkin bowling, searching for candy in a pile of hay, and ending the evening with a bucket full of goodies made going out on this blustery evening all worth it.
On Halloween, Sebastian and his fellow students went trick-or-treating through the halls of school. A perfect activity for another miserably rainy day. Once again, he ended the day with a bucket full of treats. When I picked him up, he was exhausted. We came home, changed into our warm and comfy sweats, cuddled on the couch, watched Halloween movies, and consumed some more sugar.
