Why I Worship Here

I found myself church shopping a couple of years ago.  I had my little checklist of what I was looking for in a place of worship, and visited several local places of worship.

Christ the King was not what I was looking for.  It was a little too White, and I wanted to raise my family in a congregation that was culturally representative of our community.  The messages were simple, and I was really hoping for something that would stretch my brain and broaden my understanding of the Bible.  And what was with people yelling "Amen!" during a sermon?  This place was more charasmatic than I was used to.

But I kept returning.  Week after week I brought my family, and absolutely fell in love.  As I looked around each week, I realized that this was a place for broken people.  The poor, the reformed, the anguished all came together and worhsipped in the rawest and purest form I'd ever experienced.

I cry during worship, because my heart is so wonderfully full.

Though tithes are modest here, there is a huge focus on outreach - engaging the community, and caring for the poor, sick, and broken.

THIS is why I worship here.  God brought me here to break my mental mold of a "perfect church", and to show me the joy in serving others.
