Working From Home

It takes a special type of person to effectively work from home.  I am not one of these people.  I visit the kitchen 10 times an hour, grazing, hoping that something fabulous will magically appear in my refrigerator.  I check my email.  I check Pinterest.  I get distracted by ideas for Bethany's wedding.  I get distracted by ideas for dinner.  All the while, Sebastian is relentlessly requesting assistance.  "Mom, look at this!...  Mom, can I have that?...  Mom, let's play a game!...  Mom, I'm hungry!"  Don't worry - he's climbing all over me throughout this.

This week I had the opportunity to work from home.  To do this effectively, I crawled out of bed before sunrise, made a pot of coffee, and worked until my beloved distraction woke up.  Having afternoons designated to nothing but play was wonderful.  On one sunny day, we went out into the yard to pick strawberries for shortcake...  

...and in the garden we made some fascinating discoveries...

... so we ran inside and grabbed an egg carton in which to sort our discoveries.  We inspected every corner of the yard, finding interesting things...

Sebastian had a new magnifying glass that worked into this activity perfectly.  I can't take credit for the egg carton idea though - I had seen this idea online once upon a time.  

In the end, we brought in our strawberries, and ate them all before even pulling out the ingredients for shortcake.
